We lead teams through transition. We lead communities through loss. We lead systems not built for justice toward something better. It’s no small thing to keep going in a moment like this. But leadership isn’t just about moving forward—it’s about moving forward without leaving people behind.
At The Equity Lab, that’s the commitment we’re holding. Below, you’ll find what we’re seeing, learning, and offering this season—because now’s not the time to disconnect. It’s time to anchor.
What care really looks like in leadership
Our latest LinkedIn Live asked a simple but profound question: You good?
In a sector driven by urgency, it’s easy to forget that care isn’t optional. It’s strategic. When culture breaks down, outcomes follow. When teams burn out, missions stall.
This conversation brought equity leaders together to name what they’re carrying—and what it takes to lead sustainably. Not with performative check-ins—but with trust, with pause, with protection of what matters.
We’ve kicked off our tenth cohort of Seeding Disruption—bringing together 25 senior leaders across education, housing, health, justice, youth development, and philanthropy in DC.
These leaders are confronting complex histories and pushing systems toward equity, not just in theory, but in policy, in program, and in power. And they’re doing it while learning, questioning, and building community.
Every year, this fellowship grows stronger. This year, the stakes feel higher. And still—they said yes.
Budgets are tightening. Staff are turning over. Expectations haven’t gone down—but capacity has. And somehow, leaders are still expected to do it all.
This is the season for strategy with care. For alignment that lasts. For support that doesn’t add more noise.
The Equity Lab partners with leaders to provide equity-centered advising, team retreats, leadership coaching, and strategic planning support—all grounded in what’s real for your context.
If you’re navigating uncertainty, leading through challenge, or working to stay grounded in your purpose amidst the noise—The Equity Lab is here to partner with you. We create space for reflection, help clarify purpose, and support planning rooted in values and integrity. Whether you’re preparing for next quarter, the next year, or reimagining the future altogether, we walk alongside leaders and teams to hold complexity with care, courage, and clarity.
Rooted in Place. Grounded in Possibility. Leading Forward—Together.
Nexus Cohort IV recently gathered in Cleveland to mark the closing of their eight-month fellowship journey. Against the backdrop of a city shaped by resilience and struggle, 18 cross-sector leaders came together to reflect on their growth, share their Nexus Impact Projects, and recommit to equity-rooted leadership.
We learned from local changemakers and engaged in place-based reflection through the lens of legacy, responsibility, and collective healing. Along the way, we rooted ourselves in stories of self, ancestral wisdom, and the purpose that calls each of us to this work. In a time of urgency and uncertainty, we made space for stillness, deep joy, and the kind of clarity that emerges when we pause to remember who—and what—we’re here for.
This week wasn’t just a celebration. It was a synthesis. A re-grounding. A reminder that leadership is not about individual brilliance—it’s about community, courage, and designing for a future rooted in justice. To the Fellows and to our Nexus Team, the experience felt like a return to what matters most—and a vision of what’s possible when we lead together.
With deep gratitude to the Cleveland partners, facilitators, coaches and every Fellow who brought their whole self to this space—we're honored to walk with you.
Teach the Babies with Michelle Molitor
The future we dream of is built in community, and it begins when we reclaim the power that's always been ours.
On a recent episode of the Teach The Babies podcast hosted by Dr. David J. Johns, our very own Michelle Molitor teamed up with Caroline Hill from 228 Accelerator to explore how remembering our individual and collective power can transform the systems we move through.
The weight of this work is real. But so is the opportunity.
Every email, every call, every conversation reminds us—none of us can do this alone. The systems we’re trying to change weren’t built for us. But our coalitions are.
Let’s keep building. Let’s lead like people matter. Let’s keep asking: You good? And let’s mean it.
With strength and solidarity,
The Equity Lab Team
